NBC affiliate KSHB-TV, Channel 41, has acquired the over-the-air broadcast rights to televise the Chiefs’ game at Philadelphia on Thursday night Sept. 19.
The game, which will be produced and carried nationally by NFL Network, will mark the return of new Chiefs coach Andy Reid, who spent 14 seasons as the Eagles head coach.
Channel 41 will produce a pregame show leading up to the 7:25 p.m. kickoff, as well as a postgame show.
While the game will be carried on NFL Network, league rules stipulate that games carried on cable television must be made available on a free, over-the-air network in the cities of the two participating franchises.
In recent years, ABC affiliate KMBC-TV has provided the over-the-air telecasts for Chiefs games on cable networks, usually ESPN, which is owned by ABC’s parent company, Disney. This will be Channel 41’s second Chiefs telecast. It carried a game at Oakland on Dec. 23, 2006 that was produced by NFL Network.
