The NFL is poised to unveil its preseason schedule for this fall.

Release of the exhibition lineup sometime this afternoon could be viewed as the unofficial kickoff of a giant month for the Chiefs.

The full regular-season schedule is expected to come out April 16 (same day the Chiefs begin a voluntary, three-day minicamp), and the NFL Draft follows April 25-27.

May brings rookie camp, and before we know it, the Chiefs will be playing their first preseason game under new head coach Andy Reid, with a new quarterback under center, in Alex Smith, and a new rookie first-round draft pick also on the field.

Who that first August opponent will be should be known in a matter of hours.
