Another analyst says Chiefs’ best draft prospects are linemen

Here’s some more bad news for those Chiefs fans who are in the camp that their team must select Geno Smith or another quarterback with the first overall pick in the draft: NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock believes there are only four players good enough to be worthy of consideration for that pick.

They are all offensive linemen: tackles Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M and Eric Fisher of Central Michigan, and guards Chance Warmack of Alabama and Jonathan Cooper of North Carolina.

That’s one man’s opinion, and that of the Chiefs may vary greatly. But it’s not a good idea for the Chiefs to reach in this draft of all drafts, the one that doesn’t have any player certain to become a superstar.

They need to find a good player with that top pick, and if the closest thing to guaranteeing that would be to draft an offensive lineman, then that’s what they need to do.

Mayock went on to say that if he compiled a list of the top eight or 10 best players in the draft, regardless of position, they would probably all be offensive or defensive linemen. It’s just not the kind of draft where a future superstar at quarterback, or at wide receiver for that matter, surely lurks.
