There’s job shadowing, then there’s job shadowing with Royals broadcaster Rex Hudler.
Madeline Adams, 15, from Mead, Colo., and formerly of Lee’s Summit, is interested in journalism and broadcasting and is a lifelong Royals fan. She was encouraged to find a professional for a job shadow, and accessed Rex Hudler’s website.
“It doesn’t hurt to try,” Adams said.
Fewer than two days later, Hudler responded, and invited Adams to a game.
“I ran around the house screaming,” Adams said.
There she was Friday, meeting and greeting Eric Hosmer, Salvador Perez, Alex Gordon, Lorenzo Cain, Mike Moustakas and others before Friday’s game against the Orioles.
“I’m showing her every day at work,” Hudler said. “It’s a blessing. She asked me what’s the fun part of the job? I said, just coming to the ballpark and meeting people.”
But meeting ballplayers she and her family watches every day?
“Best day of my life,” Adams said. “I feel like I’ve know them all on a personal level before today. Now I know how it feels to shake their hands. This is the best day.”
