For the third time since he requested a trade and departed the Royals organization, Zack Greinke returns to Kauffman Stadium on Monday evening.

He now headlines the Dodgers rotation alongside Clayton Kershaw, the defending National League Cy Young Award winner.

Greinke figures to contend for that same award this season. He won the American League version for the Royals in 2009. He pitched at this park twice in 2012, first with Milwaukee and later in the summer with the Angels. He posted a 1.17 ERA in 15.1 innings.

The Royals traded Greinke to the Brewers after the 2010 season. The trade provided a pair of critical pieces, Lorenzo Cain and Alcides Escobar. A third prospect, pitcher Jake Odorizzi, was included with Wil Myers in the bundle that brought back James Shields.

The Dodgers are visiting Kansas City for just the second time since the advent of interleague play. Here are the matchups for this three-game series:

Monday, 7:10 p.m.: RHP Jeremy Guthrie (4-6, 3.86 ERA) vs. RHP Zack Greinke (9-3, 2.57 ERA).

Tuesday, 7:10 p.m.: LHP Danny Duffy (4-6, 2.80 ERA) vs. LHP Clayton Kershaw (7-2, 2.52 ERA).

Wednesday, 7:10 p.m.: RHP James Shields (8-3, 3.70 ERA) vs. RHP Dan Haren (7-4, 3.62 ERA).
