The Royals added at bat to the roster when they recalled Jimmy Paredes from Class AAA Omaha to replace outfielder Jarrod Dyson, who was placed on the bereavement list because of a death in the family.
In 11 games at Omaha, Paredes was hitting .319 and slugging .417 with one home run.
Parades has played in 118 major-league games, all with the Astros. He has played left field, right field, second base and third base in his career.
Dyson will rejoin the team Monday in Cleveland, Royals manager Ned Yost said.
