Ned Yost intended to play Omar Infante on Tuesday afternoon, but the Royals opted for precaution with Infante’s right shoulder. Infante completed throwing drills with his fellow infielders on Monday but continues to feel soreness.
“He still feels it a little bit,” Yost said. “Normally in spring training, you try to get guys at-bats. His swing’s one that’s not going to need a whole bunch of at-bats to get going. We’re not too concerned about it.”
So Danny Valencia will continue his audition at second base. Here is the lineup as Danny Duffy faces the Reds:
1. Jarrod Dyson, CF.
2. Danny Valencia, 2B.
3. Eric Hosmer, 1B.
4. Billy Butler, DH.
5. Alex Gordon, LF.
6. Salvador Perez, C.
7. Mike Moustakas, 3B.
8. Justin Maxwell, RF.
9. Jason Donald, SS.
What else is going on?
1. Reliever Louis Coleman (bruised right finger) threw a session of live batting practice and reported no problems.
2. Shortstop Alcides Escobar has rejoined camp after a few days of paternity leave. But Yost won’t put him in the lineup immediately. “We’ll give him a day or two to get his feet back on the ground and get going,” Yost said.
3. Yost met with MLB officials for a rules meeting on Tuesday morning. The team’s game on Wednesday against Arizona makes the first chance to utilize the new replay system. The Royals will stash two members of the staff, Cody Clark and Bill Duplissea, in the television truck during the game. The team is training them for the job during the season.
