Royals second baseman Omar Infante is sitting out again on Saturday afternoon, in part because of stiffness in his right shoulder.
"If it was the season, absolutely, he’d be playing," manager Ned Yost said. "But with the rain, the weather the way it is, go ahead and let the trainers get it all the way out of there."
He added, "It’s one of these early spring training things that you don’t want to push."
As he makes his lineup this month, Yost will try to pair Infante with shortstop Alcides Escobar as much as possible. The two are new to each other.
A few other notes from a morning session with Yost:
1. On Friday afternoon, Yost indicated Salvador Perez would take Saturday off. Instead, he’ll repeat his schedule from the previous day: Catch the day’s starter, Jason Vargas, and take one at-bat. "We’ll give him the day off tomorrow on the road," Yost said.
2. First baseman Eric Hosmer is "not yet" taking flyballs in the outfield to prepare for interleague play, Yost said. "It’s a possibility." With Hosmer in right, for example, Billy Butler could get into the lineup as the first baseman in National League cities.
3. Yost is optimistic the clouds will break and the team will be able to play Saturday afternoon.
