The Royals will be without shortstop Alcides Escobar for Thursday’s Cactus League opener against Texas. After the Thursday morning workout, Escobar will return to his Florida home for the birth of his son, manager Ned Yost said.

“He’ll miss a couple of games,” Yost said.

Pedro Ciriaco will get the start in Escobar’s place. Ciriaco and Christian Colon have started at shortstop along with Escobar during the scrimmages earlier this week.

First pitch is scheduled for 2:05 p.m. Central time. The game will be broadcast on radio station KCSP (610 AM).
