Two-minute interview with Eric Hosmer

First baseman Eric Hosmer has been everything Royals fans envisioned when he was working his way up through the minor leagues.

Hosmer has the most multi-hit games in the American League (57), and since May 19 is hitting .322 (142 for 445) with 28 doubles and 15 home runs.

He talks about the fun of being in a playoff chase and how this year’s Royals team reminds him of playing for 2010 Class AA Northwest Arkansas team that swept the Texas League Championship Series.

Is this what you envisioned when you were coming up through the minors?

Yeah, it’s a blast. This is why you play. This is why you work hard, this is why you do all the stuff you do to get ready for a season, to put yourself in position to make the postseason. We’re pretty close to doing that, we’ve just got to play some good baseball here the last two weeks and we have a great chance of making it.

You were part of a number of teams that made the playoffs in the minor leagues, does this team remind you of any of those?

Our Double-A team was really strong and toward the end of the year we got hot and just used that momentum going into the playoffs. Obviously, it’s a lot different up here and it’s a tougher league and it takes a long time to get adapted to it, but everyone feels comfortable in doing this and everyone is really excited to keep pushing for the postseason.

Last year was tough for you personally, is it nice to see your personal statistics improve dramatically this year as well?

Answer: Yeah, that’s the beauty of it: you’re coming in here and you’re doing anything you can to win and you’re playing team baseball trying to make this push and you don’t even really pay attention to your numbers right now. It just makes it fun to come in everyday and play with guys who play with so much energy and just have that goal in mind: to win games.
