Left-hander Daniel Stumpf pitched a no-hitter in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday as Low-A Lexington beat Greenville 1-0. The Legends also took game two 7-1.
In the opener, Raul Mondesi’s first-inning home run, his fifth of the season, proved to be the difference.
Stumpf, 6-6, struck out three and walked one and another batter reached on an error.
Game two starter Christian Binford gave up one run on five hits with six strikeouts and a walk, and the Legends pounded out 11 hits. Bubba Starling had two hits, including a double, and three RBIs, while Fred Ford went two for two with two runs scored. Terrance Gore and Mondesi also had a pair of hits each.
In Binford’s last 10 starts, he has a 1.48 ERA with 57 strikeouts against 11 walks in 60 2/3 innings. He is 4-1 in that span.Class AAA Omaha
Yordano Ventura allowed five runs (four earned) in six innings as the Storm Chasers lost 6-3 to New Orleans.
Ventura, 2-2, allowed just three hits, but he walked two and hit two batters. Ventura, whose ERA is 5.16, struck out six.
First baseman Anthony Seratelli had three hits, including a double, with a run scored and an RBI. DH Max Ramirez and center fielder Paulo Orlando each had two hits.High-A Wilmington
Catcher Kenny Swab and first baseman Dennis Raben each hit a home run as the Blue Rocks won 8-3 at Frederick.
Swab’s solo shot in the second inning opened the scoring and Raben hit a two-run homer an inning later that made it 3-0. Wilmington never trailed after that.
Right fielder Ethan Chapman had three hits, including two doubles, and knocked in a pair of runs, while third baseman Jared Schlehuber and shortstop Alex McClure each had two hits.
Reliever Spencer Patton, 4-1, allowed one run on four hits in 3 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. He has a 1.27 ERA this season.Rookie advanced Idaho Falls
The Chukars scored four in the eighth inning and five in the ninth and rolled to a 13-3 win at Orem.
Center fielder Daniel Rockett had three hits, including a two-run homer in the eighth, and scored three runs, while right fielder Elier Hernandez also added three hits. Five Chukars had two hits, including first baseman Cody Stubbs, who had a three-run homer in the ninth and knocked in four runs total.
Left fielder Alexis Rivera had a two-run homer in the second and scored twice, while second baseman Adrian Bringas had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Hunter Dozier, the Royals’ first-round pick in last month’s draft, had two hits, including a double, scored twice and knocked in a run.
Zeb Sneed got the win after allowing just one hit in 3 1/3 scoreless innings.
