Bubba Starling broke a scoreless tie with an RBI double in the eighth inning Saturday as Low-A Lexington beat Savannah 2-0.
After his double, Starling stole third and later scored on a single by Michael Antonio. Starling, the Royals’ top pick in 2011, has a four-game hitting streak during which he is batting .600 with three doubles. He also has had one RBI in each of his last four games.
Legends starter Christian Binford allowed seven hits in six innings with two walks and nine strikeouts. In his last six starts, the 6-foot-6 Binford has a 1.47 ERA after allowing six earned runs in 36 2/3 innings. He has 35 strikeouts against six walks.
Aroni Nina, 4-3, pitched two hitless innings with three strikeouts and a walk. Kevin Allen pitched around two hits in the ninth and got his first save.Class AA Northwest Arkansas
Jason Adam continued his string of strong starts by allowing just one run in 6 1/3 innings as the Naturals beat Tulsa 3-1.
Adam, the Royals’ No. 8 prospect according to Baseball America, gave up three hits, walked one and struck out two. In his last three starts, Adam has given up five earned runs in 17 1/3 innings (2.60). On Saturday, he threw 50 of his 88 pitches for strikes.
Santiago Garrido threw 1 2/3 innings of one-hit relief and Zach Jackson got his seventh save after allowing one hit in the ninth.
Brett Eibner hit a solo homer in the fourth inning. In his last nine games, Eibner is batting .313 (10 for 32). Whit Merrifield had two hits and an RBI, while Cheslor Cuthbert also had two hits.High-A Wilmington
Left-hander Sam Selman tossed five shutout innings as the Blue Rocks jumped to a big lead early and held on for an 11-7 victory against Salem.
The Blue Rocks got on the board in the bottom of the first when Lane Adams hit a two-run homer. They added six in the second with two scoring on a single by Jared Schlehuber and another on an RBI single by Adams.
That seemed like it was going to be more than enough as Selman allowed just three hits and one walk. Selman, who was a second-round pick in 2012, struck out six and his ERA dropped to 4.40.
It was a 9-1 game going to the eighth, but reliever Cory Hall gave up five runs (three earned) and didn’t retire an out. He gave up two hits and walked two in his first appearance since being promoted from Lexington.
All told. six runs scored in the inning and Wilmington’s lead was cut to 9-7. However, in the bottom of the eighth, Ethan Chapman had a one-out bunt single, took second when Daniel Mateo was hit by a pitch. Bobby Fisher-Brown’s two-out triple scored Desmond Henry and broke a tie as the Royals beat Pulaski 2-1.
Fisher-Brown also hit a solo homer in the sixth that tied the game 1-1.
Kevin McCarthy, 1-0, tossed three scoreless innings, allowing one hit and striking out three as the Royals won their third straight to open their season.
Burlington starter Cesar Ogando, a left-hander, gave up one run on three hits in five innings. He struck out five and walked three. He is the cousin of Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando. Jose Miguel Rodriguez struck out all three batters he faced in the ninth and got his first save.Class AAA Omaha
Storm Chasers starter Justin Marks allowed nine runs on 15 hits in 5 2/3 innings as the Storm Chasers fell 11-2 at Oklahoma City.
Marks, 1-8, gave up three walks and two homers, while recording four strikeouts.

Cody Reed, the Royals’ second-round pick in this month’s draft, allowed one unearned run in 3 1/3 innings on three hits by the Chukars lost gave up a late run and lost 8-7 to Ogden.
Reed walked four and struck out two.
Third baseman Hunter Dozier, the Royals’ first pick in this month’s draft, had a double, an RBI and a run. Alexis Rivera had two doubles and knocked in a run.
Elier Hernandez had two hits, including a triple, and two RBIs. Hernandez, an outfielder from the Dominican Republic, signed with the Royals for $3.05 million in 2011. Baseball America had Hernandez ranked as the Royals’ No. 16 prospect.Rookie Surprise

Brawlun Gomez had two hits, including a home run for the Royals, while Samir Buenez had two hits and two RBIs. Jeckson Flores had two hits and stole a base.
Andrew Brockett, 1-0, tossed 1 2/3 innings of hitless relief. He was picked in the 22nd round of the draft earlier this month. Tripp Davis gave up a run in the 11th but got the save.
Luis Melgar,who pitched the previous four seasons for the Dominican Royals, gave up five hits and one run in 4 2/3 innings of relief with four strikeouts. Reliever Ronny Rios had 3 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. He gave up three hits and struck out three.
