Catcher Brett Hayes hit a two-run homer in sixth inning as Omaha rallied for a 2-1 win and salvage a split with Albuquerque on Wednesday.
Hayes’ blast made a winner of Will Smith, who pitched two shutout innings in relief of Everett Teaford. In five innings, Teaford gave up one run on five hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
In the opener, the Isotopes scored nine in the third inning and rolled to an 11-3 victory.
Storm Chasers starter Brian Sanches, 3-2, pitched to seven batters in the third inning and didn’t get an out. Sanches gave up seven runs (six earned) on six hits in two innings. George Sherrill gave up two runs (one earned) in two innings and Francisley Bueno gave up two runs on three innings.
Christian Colon hit a solo homer for the Storm Chasers, while catcher Adam Moore had two hits.Class AA Northwest Arkansas
Arkansas scored six runs in the seventh inning and rallied for an 8-3 victory against Northwest Arkansas.
The Naturals trailed 2-0 in the fourth, but Orlando Calixte’s RBI single scored Brett Eibner and Calixte later scored on Cheslor Cuthbert’s groundout.
Cuthbert and Calixte teamed up to give Northwest Arkansas the lead in the sixth. Calixte opened the inning with a single and Brian Fletcher also singled. After an out, Cuthbert doubled home Calixte scores.
The Travelers’ big hit in the seventh was a three-run homer against Naturals reliever Edwin Carl, who gave up two runs in one-third of an inning.
Naturals starter Aaron Brooks gave up six runs on seven hits in 6 1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out three.
