Matt Fields hit a home run in consecutive innings on Saturday night as Class AA Northwest Arkansas beat Arkansas 6-3.
The Naturals trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Fields went deep and tied the game. In the fifth, Arkansas scored a run to regain the lead, but Brett Eibner singled with one out, and after the second out, Brian Fletcher reached on an error that should have ended the frame. Fields then launched a three-run shot to make it 4-2.
Starter Aaron Brooks, who was promoted from High-A Wilmington after Yordano Ventura was bumped up to Class AAA Omaha, won his first start for the Naturals. Brooks allowed three runs on eight hits, didn’t walk a batter and struck out two.
The Naturals had 14 hits, led by Fields’ three. Shortstop Alex McClure, third baseman Angel Franco and Eibner all had two hits.Low-A Lexington
The Legends pounded out 13 hits and won 8-2 at Augusta.
Fred Ford hit his seventh homer of the season, a two-run shot in Lexington’s five-run fifth inning. Right fielder Ethan Chapman and shortstop Humberto Arteaga each had three hits.
Center fielder Bubba Starling added two hits, scored one and had an RBI. Left fielder Terrance Gore had two hits, including a double and scored twice on his 22nd birthday.
Starter Miguel Almonte, 3-4, gave up two runs on six hits in six innings. He struck out five and didn’t walk a batter. In six of his last seven starts, Almonte has allowed two runs or fewer.High-A Wilmington
Left-hander John Lamb gave up four runs in the first inning and the Blue Rocks lost 9-5 to Winston-Salem.
All told, Lamb allowed six runs on nine hits in four innings with two strikeouts and one walk. He gave up three home runs as his ERA climbed to 5.37.
Catcher Kenny Swab hit a solo homer in the third inning for Wilmington. Jared Schlehuber hit a two-run shot off former Yankees’ first-round pick Andrew Brackman in the eighth inning.
