All-Star Game memories: 1984

July 10, 1984 National League 3, American League 1 Candlestick Park in San Francisco Royals third baseman George Brett provided all the scoring for the American League in this one. The National League scored a run in the bottom of the first, but Brett hit a solo homer in the second against the Expos’ Charlie Lea and tied the game. But over the final seven innings, the American League had just four hits. Brett struck out against Dodgers ace Fernando Valenzuela in the fourth inning and flied out to left against the Reds’ Mario Soto. Expos catcher Gary Carter hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second to give the National League a 2-1 lead
