Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer commanded the cleanup spot in his first two games back after a three-game hiatus to deal with a sprained left ring finger.
Hosmer said he still had some discomfort on Thursday but it was playable. But before Friday’s game against the Twins, Hosmer was optimistic about the finger’s progression.
“Finger’s good,” Hosmer said. “It felt good yesterday. It definitely felt a lot better than it did going into yesterday, so that’s good. It’s gotten better and better each day, and it’s not enough pain to hold me back from playing.”
Hosmer, who expects to be back at full strength by the start of next week, sustained the injury sliding head-first in Oakland.
“It’s pretty much there,” Hosmer said. “It’s not 100, but it’s right around there. I’d say in a day or two it’ll be 100 percent. But it feels good, and it’s good to be back on the field with these guys.”
