The Royals weren’t the only ones affected by the rain on Sunday. Danny Duffy had his second rehabilitation start with Class AAA Omaha postponed due to storms in New Orleans. Duffy was slated to throw 65 pitches. He only threw four before the game was delayed.
It is unclear when Duffy will return to action, but this places at least a slight crimp in the plans of the Royals. The team wants him to rebuild arm strength and stretch out to a 100-pitch limit before he rejoins the big-league rotation.
Duffy has not pitched for the Royals since May 16. He experienced a bout of shoulder inflammation that was treated with a cortisone shot. He allowed 14 runs in his last three outings that boosted his ERA to an unsightly 5.87.
Duffy was scheduled to throw 100 pitches for the Storm Chasers on June 24. It is unclear who he would displace from the rotation, as Jason Vargas is currently on the disabled list and Yordano Ventura experienced numbness in his throwing hand on Friday against the Cardinals.
