The Royals trimmed 12 players from big-league camp on Wednesday morning, bidding farewell to a dozen minor-leaguers.
Kansas City optioned outfielders Lane Adams and Jorge Bonifacio, pitcher Aaron Brooks and infielder Orlando Calixte to Class AAA Omaha.
Assigned to minor-league camp were pitchers Buddy Baumann, Brian Broderick, Casey Coleman and Joe Paterson; third baseman Hunter Dozier; first baseman Matt Fields; shortstop Raul Mondesi; and outfielder Bubba Starling.
There are now 46 players left in camp.
Never miss a local story.
Mondesi is the team’s top position-player prospect, but it was another infielder who impressed Yost the most.
“Mondesi did a great job,” Yost said. “But the guy who really caught my eye was Calixte.”
Calixte hit .385 with a 1.154 on-base plus slugging percentage. He contributed three doubles and a triple in 10 games.
Starling overcame a bumpy start to hit .286 in seven games.
“I thought Bubba did great,” Yost said. “You saw Bubba get better and better and better each day.”
