Salvador Perez did not receive time off on Tuesday, a day after he departed a game because o discomfort in his right knee. Instead, his night off came on Wednesday, when the Royals scratched him.

The team announced the injury after the club finished batting practice. Manager Ned Yost was not available for comment. A team official dubbed the decision to sit Perez a “precautionary measure.”

Perez tore his meniscus in his left knee during spring training in 2012. He has started a league-high 112 games behind the plate this season.

Yost made a pair of deviations from his usual lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Rockies. Christian Colon will start at third base and lead off. Josh Willingham will play right field for the first time as a Royal.
