You hate to kick a guy when he’s down, but the Tigers are having a rough time these days, and it’s extended to areas perhaps unseen before in baseball history.

Detroit had a seven-game lead in the AL Central on July 24 and a five-game lead on Aug. 3.

But the Tigers have lost six of eight and the Royals have sprinted past Detroit to the top of the Central. Pitchers Anibal Sanchez and Joakim Soria are both on the disabled list. Justin Verlander’s shoulder is iffy.

Can’t get much worse right?

On Monday, the Tigers’ bat boy slipped on the field during Detroit’s game in Pittsburgh and was injured. The bat boy reportedly hurt his left knee and was seen on crutches later.
