Mizzou’s Evan Boehm almost was Tiger of another stripe

The Auburn Eagle isn’t expected to be making an appearance at the Georgia Dome for the SEC title game against Mizzou, an Auburn spokesperson says.
But if it were to swoop in, the sight wouldn’t be a new spectacle for at least one MU Tiger.
“It’s not going to be like, ‘Oh, wow, look at that,’” Mizzou center Evan Boehm said. “I’ve seen it before.”
Boehm, a sophomore from Lee’s Summit, attended the 2011 Iron Bowl between Alabama and Auburn as an Auburn recruit.
This was no small thing for him: Since he had previously committed to Mizzou, he de-committed to MU before making the trip.
“It just felt like it was disrespectful both to the University of Missouri and Auburn to go somewhere while I’m still committed,” Boehm said.
Boehm said he regretted hurting the coaches from both teams in the process but said he had to do it for peace of mind to reinforce the ultimate decision.
“When you second-guess yourself a little bit, you start second-guessing yourself a lot,” said Boehm, who ultimately wanted to play closer to home. “And I went down and I visited, and it was a great visit and a great Auburn atmosphere and a great team.
“But at the same time, I’m glad I’m here and I’m glad I’m part of something special up here.”
