The first thing you may think of when you see this video is former major-league pitcher Randy Johnson.
During a spring training game in 2001, a bird flew in the path of a Johnson pitch and was killed instantly.
There was almost a replay of that on Monday night during the Royals’ 6-2 win over the Cardinals. While Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright was pitching to Cheslor Cuthbert, a bird flew near home plate at Kauffman Stadium.
Not only did the bird narrowly miss the ball, but also the bat as Cuthbert swung. Take a look:

That didn’t appear to be a small bird, either. The flash of yellow made me think it was possibly a Northern Flicker.
UPDATE: I've been informed by two readers that the bird is a Western Kingbird.
