On a usual night, Rays first baseman CJ Cron's flyball to left field would have been the most unusual play in a game.
But Adeiny Hechavarria's sleight of hand at the plate trumped Cron's swing during the Royals' 2-1 loss to Tampa Bay at Kauffman Stadium.
Still, Cron's swing on a one-hopper was impressive, too. After Hechavarria doubled in the sixth inning, Cron stepped to the plate. Royals starter Eric Skoglund bounced a pitch in front of the plate, and catcher Salvador Perez was preparing try and stop the ball from getting past him.
Perez didn't need to worry. Cron managed to hit the ball on the bounce.
It was a flyout to Royals left fielder Alex Gordon, but it's kind of amazing that Cron even got a bat on the ball.
