I can say with 100 percent accuracy that Terez A. Paylor’s scoop about the Chiefs’ trade of Alex Smith to Washington generated a whole lot more interest on KansasCity.com than the State of the Union address.
That’s no dig at President Trump. It speaks more to the level of Chiefs interest in Kansas City.
But the timing of the news of the Smith trade made for some humorous mentions on social media.
Here are some of the best no-partisan tweets I saw:
Never miss a local story.
First was a dig at Smith’s tendency to play it safe as this was tweeted: “a big night for conservatives in washington” Get it?

Then there was a video of Sen. Bernie Sanders’ tepid applause with this message: “Bernie when he heard Alex Smith was coming to Washington.”
It is likely that many people heard news of the trade after it happened. “They should put the Alex Smith to Washington trade in the President’s teleprompter. He’d be first on tv to break the story. “

Rich Eisen of the NFL Network tweeted: “And you thought the biggest news out of DC tonight was the State of the Union. Silly pundits.”

Yes, many people found there Twitter feeds were a jumbled mix of President Trump and Alex Smith. “Maybe I’m getting my info confused, but from my Twitter feed, I think President Trump just negotiated a deal for #AlexSmith to go to the Washington, and for #KirkCousins to be traded to #Guantanamo. #SOTU

Yep, it was hard to focus. “I have no idea what President Trump said for the last half hour once this Alex Smith trade went down! #SOTU
