Former North Carolina basketball coach Dean Smith had a reputation as a really nice person, and that was confirmed Thursday.
Smith, who died last month, apparently left a little something for his former players in his will.
Dante Calabria, one of Smith’s former players, tweeted this:
Coach Smith willed his trust to send a $200 check to each his former players following his passing. #DeanSmith pic.twitter.com/NyiBhU9taQ

Yes, it seems that Smith left every basketball letterman he coached $200 that they are supposed to use for dinner out.*
*Not sure that $200 buys Michael Jordan’s dinner, but that’s neither here nor there.
Smith, who was born in Emporia and played at Kansas, coached the Tar Heels from 1961-1997. The Associated Press reported that approximately 180 players received a check.
What a great thing to do.
