Michael Mathis, a junior college defensive back, became the 13th member of Kansas football’s 2015 recruiting class, reneging on a previous commitment to Kentucky and selecting the Jayhawks late last week, according to Rivals.com.

Mathis, 6 feet 2 and 205 pounds, is a three-star prospect and is expected to sign with Kansas in December after finishing his season at Kilgore (Texas) Junior College. Mathis said KU assistant coach Dave Campo was a driving force behind his commitment.

"It was hard to do," Mathis said of switching from Kentucky to Kansas, according to Rivals. "But I talked to the coaches at Kentucky and told them what I was going to do. Once I was opened back up in recruiting, coach Dave Campo was with me 100 percent. He jumped on me right away."
