History of whiffs for SEC champion projection

If your favorite SEC football team is projected as conference champion, pencil in a Capital One or Music City bowl season.

The projections have been that bad.

The last five picks have been whiffs. Last year, when Alabama was the pick, Auburn defeated Missouri in the SEC title game.

LSU got the preseason nod in 2012, when Alabama won it. ’Bama was selected in 2010 and 2011 and the winners were Auburn and LSU, although the Crimson Tide won the BCS National Championship for 2011.

The media vote got it right in 2007 and 2008 when LSU and Florida won titles, but the previous 11 projections were wrong.

This season, projections, along with the preseason All-SEC team, will be announced on Thursday.
