Lori Thomas has been hired as the new commissioner of the Heart of America Athletic Conference, replacing Larry Lady, who is stepping down after 21 years in the position.
Thomas, currently the NAIA’s senior vice president for membership and character initiatives, will become the first female commissioner of a NAIA conference.
Since 2004, Thomas has supervised the NAIA championships department, which is responsible for 23 events, emerging sports, site selection, host contracts, championship merchandising and apparel, coaches associations, councils and committees.
Thomas, a native of Kansas City, also has served as an assistant volleyball coach at Missouri State from 1993-96 and Tulsa from 1996-98. She played volleyball at Johnson County Community College.
