Four area men’s teams move on in NCAA Division II basketball

Central Missouri, Northwest Missouri and Missouri Southern all advanced to the NCAA Division II men’s Central Regional semifinals with victories Saturday in Mankato, Minn.

Central Missouri, Northwest Missouri and Missouri Southern all advanced to the NCAA Division II men’s Central Regional semifinals with victories Saturday in Mankato, Minn.

Missouri Southern beat Fort Hays State 80-69, led by Olathe South grad Marquis Addison with 26 points. The Lions will play Central Missouri, 56-44 winners over Arkansas Tech, at 5 p.m. today for a spot in the regional final.

The eight regional champions advance to the NCAA Division II Elite Eight on March 26-29 in Evansville, Ind.

Northwest Missouri shot a blistering .615 from the field and beat Winona State 98-77. DeShaun Cooper led the Bearcats with 29 points. They will face top-seeded Minnesota State-Mankato at 7:30 today.

In the Midwest Regional, top-seeded Drury opened with a 69-64 win over Wisconsin-Parkside in Springfield. The Panthers will play Lake Superior State (Mich.) at 8:30 tonight for a spot in the regional final.

• The top-seeded Emporia State women advanced to the Central Regional championship with a 76-69 win over Wayne State (Neb.) in Searcy, Ark.

The Hornets will play Concordia-St. Paul (Minn.), which beat Central Missouri 85-60, at 7 p.m. Monday for a spot in the Elite Eight. The Mules finished 26-5.
