Kansas freshman Joel Embiid, who won’t play in this week’s Big 12 Tournament, was in uniform and took part in a light shootaround during Wednesday’s practice at the Sprint Center.

Embiid took part in no contact drills, but leisurely shot jumpers and worked through post drills at close to 25 or 50 percent speed.

On Monday, he was ruled out of the Big 12 tourney and will likely miss the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament after a trip to a spine specialist in Los Angeles confirmed the prognosis of a stress fracture in his back.

Embiid, according to KU coach Bill Self, is close to halfway through the healing process.

KU plays the Oklahoma State-Texas Tech winner in the Big 12 quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Thursday.
