Beer and wine will be available inside Sprint Center for next week’s Big 12 Championship.

Alcoholic beverages have not been sold at a Big 12 Tournament since 2005.

“These are predominantly adult audiences,” Big 12 Commissioner Bob Bowlsby said in an interview posted on the conference’s website. “It’s one way we feel we can control the consumption…and it’s in a facility that normally provides beer and wine service.”

The event begins on March 12 with the eighth- and ninth-seeds meeting at 6 p.m., and the seventh and 10th seeds at 8:30 p.m. The quarterfinals begin at 11:30 a.m. on March 13, with semifinals set starting at 6 p.m. on March.

The championship game is 8 p.m. on March 15.
