It’s been a rough year for the progeny of two area college basketball coaches.
Kansas coach Bill Self said that his son Tyler, a sophomore walk-on, had surgery this week to fuse two bones in his foot. Tyler Self, who is expected to be out four to six months, tore ligaments in his foot earlier this season and was slated to redshirt.
Tyler Self’s surgery came just a few days after Mizzou walk-on Corey Haith, the son of head coach Frank Haith, suffered a knee injury in practice this week. Haith is reportedly out for an extended period of time.
Bill Self said his son’s injury was severe enough to put his basketball future in question. But according to his father, Tyler Self would like to return and play out his career at KU.
“He wants to,” Self said.
The younger Self will have three years of eligibility remaining after this season.
