Undefeated MU ranked No. 4 in volleyball coaches’ poll

The Missouri volleyball team moved up to a program-record No. 4 ranking in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association poll released Monday.
The Tigers, 31-0 overall and 15-0 in the Southeastern Conference, moved up from No. 7 and received 1,277 points, trailing No. 1 Texas (39 first-place votes, 1,473 points), No. 2 Penn State (16, 1,448) and No. 3 Washington (5, 1,397). Colorado State, 25-0 and ranked 10th, is the only other unbeaten team in Division I.
Missouri needs one win in its final three games, starting with a home match Friday against Mississippi State, to clinch its first SEC title.
Also Monday, MU senior Lisa Henning of Blue Springs was chosen SEC player of the week.
Kansas, 20-6, moved up one spot to No. 23 in the latest poll.
• The NAIA volleyball championship pairings were announced Monday. No. 13 Park, 33-5, will play host to Asbury (Ky.) and Ottawa will play at Wayland Baptist (Texas) in the first round Saturday. The winners advance to the 24-team national tournament Dec. 3-7 in Sioux City, Iowa.
Columbia and MidAmerica Nazarene received opening-round byes and automatically advance to the 24-team tournament.
• The Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association tournament starts Tuesday on campus sites. Top-seeded Central Missouri plays host to Pittsburg State, No. 2 Washburn is host to Northwest Missouri, Missouri Western travels to No. 3 Nebraska-Kearney and Emporia State plays at No. 4 Central Oklahoma. All games are at 7 p.m. except for the game at Central Oklahoma, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
The semifinals are Friday and the championship is Saturday with the highest-remaining seeds serving as hosts.Soccer
• Rockhurst will play host to Lewis (Ill.) at 7:30 p.m. Friday for a spot in the NCAA Division II men’s quarterfinals. The winner faces the Fort Hays State-Lindenwood winner for a spot in the semifinals Dec. 5 in Evans, Ga.
• The NAIA announced its 32-team men’s championship bracket Monday. In first-round games Saturday, No. 6 seed Benedictine plays host to Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), No. 9 MidAmerica Nazarene plays host to Kansas Wesleyan, No. 13 Baker plays host to Midland (Neb.) and Park travels to No. 2 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.).
