Missouri’s men’s basketball team isn’t getting any love as preseason polls begin to trickle out

, but that’s OK.

Nobody seemed to have faith in the football team before the season either, and

we all know how that’s worked out

The Tigers’ basketball team remains 10 days away from its exhibition opener — a contest

against Oklahoma City that will be played at the Hearnes Center and honor the 1993-94 squad

— and the regular-season opener remains two weeks further out beyond that.

tonight is the annual Black Gold game, which begins at 6 p.m. at Mizzou Arena

It will be the first chance fans to see a revamped Missouri squad led by Tulsa transfer Jordan Clarkson as well as promising freshmen Wes Clark, a point guard from Detroit, and Jonathan Williams III, a forward from Memphis.

Guard Earnest Ross and forward Tony Criswell are the only seniors for a Tigers team that hopes to

forge its identity on defense

as the season progresses.

Guard Jabari Brown, a junior, also returns along with forward Stefan Jankovic and sophomore Ryan Rosburg.

Fans also will get the first look at freshman forward Torren Jones — an athletic talent Missouri coach Frank Haith likened to New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham, who played for Haith at Miami — as well as sharpshooter Shane Rector, a freshman from the Bronx, N.Y., and junior college transfer Keanau Post, a 6-foot-11 junior forward.
