William Jewell and the Great Lakes Valley Conference have launched a campaign to help raise funds for Paul Worstell, the Cardinals’ tennis coach and sports information director who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia earlier this year.
The conference has produced #All4Paul wristbands, which are being distributed at athletic events and around campus for a minimum donation of $5. Proceeds will help the Worstell family with meals and other household needs during rounds of treatments that will take him outside of the Kansas City area for prolonged periods.
“The Jewell athletics family is close,” Jewell athletic director Darlene Bailey said. “We have missed having Paul with us on a daily basis these past few months since his diagnosis.”
Bailey said the conference reached out to the school with the wristband idea.
“We decided this would be a great opportunity to be reminded daily of Paul’s journey as well as a means to support him and his family in a meaningful way,” Bailey said.
Jewell’s Homecoming football game is Saturday against South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
