Missouri released its latest football depth chart on Tuesday, and it contains a few interesting changes.

• Perhaps the most notable is redshirt freshman tight end Sean Culkin’s ascension to the first team over senior Eric Waters. Waters served primarily as a blocker last season and was listed as the starter at the position throughout the spring, but Missouri coach Gary Pinkel has repeatedly raved about Culkin’s ability for the better part of a year, and Culkin likely would have played last year until an injured finger sidelined him for the first few games.

• At running back, junior Henry Josey — who has spent the last year and a half

rehabbing from a devastating knee injury

— is listed as the starting running back, with sophomore Russell Hansbrough behind him. Junior Marcus Murphy, one of the most accomplished return men in the nation, is No. 3 on the depth chart after opening the spring atop it.

• At quarterback, senior James Franklin remains the starter at the position, but redshirt freshman Maty Mauk has surpassed sophomore Corbin Berkstresser on the depth chart. Berkstresser earned playing time last season while Franklin was dealing with an assortment of ailments, but largely struggled, completing 88 of 177 passes (49.7 percent) for 1,059 yards, five touchdowns and seven interceptions. He was listed as the No. 2 quarterback entering spring drills.

• Sophomore receiver Dorial Green-Beckham — who was chosen to the preseason watch list for the Biletnikoff Award on Tuesday — remains listed as the backup at the X-receiver position behind Marcus Lucas, but that’s unlikely to affect how much he plays this season. Green-Beckham entered the spring as Lucas’ backup but earned several reps with the first team at the position.

• Sophomore Connor McGovern continues his ascension to the top of the depth chart. McGovern, who started earning several first-team reps at offensive guard in the spring, is now listed as the starting right guard, with senior Max Copeland — the starter at the position entering the spring — positioned atop the depth chart at left guard. Evan Boehm, who started all 12 games at left guard last season as a true freshman, is now the starting center.

• Redshirt freshman Rickey Hatley and junior Markus Golden have essentially switched spots at third-team defensive end. Golden is now listed behind Michael Sam and Brayden Burnett, while Hatley is listed behind Kony Ealy and Shane Ray.

• Safety Earnest Payton, who opened the spring at safety, has apparently been moved back to cornerback. He’s No. 3 on the depth chart behind senior Randy Ponder and redshirt freshman John Gibson. David Johnson, who was listed as Ponder’s backup entering the spring, is now listed as E.J. Gaines’ backup at the other corner, bumping junior Xavier Smith down to third string.

Here’s the depth chart, in its entirety.
