Michael Smith, once a Northwest Missouri State women’s basketball graduate assistant, is returning to Maryville as the Bearcats’ head coach.

Smith replaces Mark Kellogg, who spent one season at Northwest before taking a job at West Texas A&M after leading the Bearcats to a 15-13 record last season.

Smith spent the last five seasons at Truman State, where he compiled a 68-68 record as head coach. His first coaching job was at Northwest from 1996-98.
