K-State’s Chambers, KU’s Goodrich chosen all-Big 12 on eve of women’s tournament

Kansas State senior guard Brittany Chambers and Kansas senior point guard Angel Goodrich received first-team all-Big 12 women’s basketball honors on Thursday, a day before both teams open the conference tournament in Dallas.
Chambers, who was chosen to the first team for the third straight year by the Big 12 coaches, and the eighth-seeded Wildcats, 14-16, will face No. 9 seed Texas, 12-17, at 6 p.m. Friday in a first-round game at the AmericanAirlines Center. The winner faces top-ranked and No. 1 seed Baylor, 29-1, at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Goodrich, who made first team all-Big 12 for the first time, and No. 7 seed KU, 17-12, will play 10th-seeded TCU, 9-20, at 8:30 p.m. Friday with the winner moving on to face No. 2 seed Iowa State at 6 p.m. Saturday in the quarterfinals.
Baylor’s Brittney Griner and Kim Mulkey were the Big 12’s player and coach of the year. Joining Griner, Goodrich and Chambers on the all-Big 12 first team are the Bears’ Odyssey Sims, Iowa State’s Hallie Christofferson and Chelsea Poppens, Oklahoma’s Aaryn Ellenberg, Oklahoma State’s Toni Young, Texas Tech’s Chynna Brown and West Virginia’s Christal Caldwell.
KU’s Carolyn Davis, Oklahoma’s Joanna McFarland, Oklahoma State’s Tiffany Bias and Texas Tech’s Casey Morris and Monique Smalls made the second team.
