AMES, Iowa — Kansas senior Jeff Withey’s late-season push for Big 12 Player of the Year honors continued this past week, when the 7-foot center averaged 17.5 points and 10 rebounds in victories over Oklahoma State and TCU.
With the Jayhawks in Ames to take on Iowa State on Monday night, Withey was rewarded with his second straight selection as the Big 12’s player of the week. It’s the third time Withey has taken home the honor this season — and the fifth overall time a Kansas player has won the award this season.
Withey shot 52.6 percent (10 of 19) for the week, while hitting 15 of 18 (83.3 percent) from the free-throw line. He also finished with seven blocked shots, increasing his Big 12-leading career total to 272.
Withey has been at his best after the Jayhawks suffered a three-game losing streak in early February. In his last four games, all KU victories, Withey is averaging 16.8 points, 10.3 rebounds and 3.5 blocks.
