K-State quarterback Collin Klein and linebacker Arthur Brown not only received weekly honors from the Big 12 on Monday but were chosen semifinalists for prestigious national awards.
Klein was chosen the conference’s offensive player of the week after leading the Wildcats to seven touchdowns, including four rushing, in the Wildcats’ 55-14 win at West Virginia on Saturday night. He was also selected as one of 16 semifinalists for the Davey O’Brien award, given to the nation’s best passer.
The others: Matt Barkley, Southern California; Tajh Boyd, Clemson; Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville; Colby Cameron, Louisiana Tech; Seth Doege, Texas Tech; Nick Florence, Baylor; Landry Jones, Oklahoma; E.J. Manuel, Florida State; Johnny Manziel, Texas A&M; Marcus Mariota, Oregon; A.J. McCarron, Alabama; Braxton Miller, Ohio State; Aaron Murray, Georgia; Denard Robinson, Michigan; and Geno Smith, West Virginia.
Brown, who became the first player to intercept West Virginia’s Geno Smith this season, won defensive player of the week. Brown also was chosen as one of 12 semifinalists for the Butkus Award, given annually to the nation’s best linebacker.
