LAWRENCE — After taking over the Kansas program last December, Charlie Weis’ first recruiting class was pieced together on the fly. With a full year to work on his second class, the Jayhawks are starting to make some progress on the recruiting trail.
Andrew Bolton, a defensive end from Hinds Community College in Mississippi, committed to Kansas on Monday evening, according to Rivals.com. Bolton, a 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive end, began to draw attention last season after finishing with 18 sacks and 65 tackles as a freshman.
KU linebackers coach DeMontie Cross led the recruitment, according to Rivals, and after visiting Kansas during the program’s 20-6 loss to TCU on Saturday, Bolton was ready to make his choice. A native of Raymond, Miss., Bolton also had offers from a list of schools that included LSU, Iowa and Mississippi State. He is the eighth member of the Jayhawks’ 2013 recruiting class.
