Avila senior pitcher Chris Thomas has been chosen to the NAIA All-America first team. Thomas, from Liberty, transferred to Avila before his junior year from Maple Woods Community College. He finished 12-2 this season with a 1.53 ERA, ranking in the top five in the nation in wins, hits allowed per nine innings, opponent batting average, and ERA. Thomas also ranked in the top ten in total runs allowed, strikeouts, and total runs allowed. Thomas was joined by MidAmerica Nazarene outfielder Ben Alison, who received honorable mention, as the only Heart of America Athletic Association players to make the NAIA All-America team.
