Game of the week
Oklahoma at West Virginia, 7 p.m. Saturday on ABC
This is the Mountaineers’ biggest game in five Big 12 seasons. West Virginia has been one of the nation’s surprise teams with an 8-1 overall record and No. 10 ranking. The Mountaineers own the league’s top scoring defense (20.6 points) and Oklahoma the second-best scoring offense (44.2). West Virginia is 13-2 in its last 15 games dating to last year. Oklahoma has won 14 straight Big 12 games. The winner will feel good about its Big 12 title chances and after last weekend’s run of upsets, the College Football Playoff door isn’t closed for the winner of this game.
Never miss a local story.
Washington State over Colorado, 2:30 p.m. Saturday on Fox
The Buffaloes are a slight favorite at home in a battle between upstarts. Not many teams are hotter than Washington State, which after losing its first two, has won eight straight. Bad news for the Cougars is the loss of wide receiver River Cracraft, who was lost for the season after tearing an knee ligament in last week’s victory over California. But Washington State should have enough to edge past a stout Buffaloes defense and set up a huge Apple Cup game with Washington.
Others to watch
Florida at LSU, noon Saturday on SEC Network
This game was rescheduled from its original Oct. 8 date in Gainesville, Fla., because of Hurricane Matthew. The Gators and Tigers meet for big stakes … for Florida. The Gators will clinch the SEC East with a victory. But if Florida loses and Tennessee defeats Missouri and Vanderbilt in its final two games, the Vols will take the division and meet Alabama in the SEC title game. Had the game been played in October, chances are LSU running back Leonard Fournette wouldn’t have been available because of an ankle injury. Now he’s back at full speed.
Southern California at UCLA, 9:30 p.m. Saturday on ESPN
The Trojans broke a three-game losing streak in the series last year. USC is rolling, knocking off undefeated Washington in Seattle last week, and quarterback Sam Darnold is getting some late Heisman buzz. The Bruins broke a four-game losing streak last week with a victory over Oregon State and needs to win Saturday in the season finale at California to become bowl eligible.
