Eric Hosmer is back in the Royals lineup as they conclude this series against the White Sox. Manager Ned Yost had initially indicated Hosmer would sit out on Wednesday due to his bruised right hand.

“It’s still a little sore,” Yost said. “But it’s playable.”

Danny Valencia has also replaced Billy Butler as the designated hitter, with a left-handed pitcher on the mound for Chicago.

Here is the lineup as James Shields (9-5, 3.70 ERA) faces Jose Quintana (5-7, 3.26 ERA):

5. Alex Gordon, LF.

6. Danny Valencia, DH.
