Left-hander Bruce Chen took the loss as he allowed four runs on 10 hits over four innings Sunday as part of a rehab assignment with Class AAA Omaha, which lost 4-3 to Oklahoma City.
Chen, who is on the disabled list while recuperating from a bulging disk in his back, struck out one, didn’t walk a batter and allowed a home run.
“I think he’s still feeling his way through a bit. He gave up some hits, but nothing was really hit hard,” manager Brian Poldberg told the Omaha World-Herald.
Clayton Mortensen gave up just two hits over the last five shutout innings. He struck out six and walked one.
Center fielder Brett Eibner had three hits, including two doubles and scored twice. Third baseman Johnny Giavotella also had a three-hit game.
Michael Antonio and Mark Donato hit consecutive home runs during a nine-run fifth inning as Class A-Advanced Wilmington broke a scoreless tie en route to a 10-4 win at Potomac. Raul Mondesi’s bases-loaded single brought home the first run and Bubba Starling followed with a two-run single. Hunter Dozier’s RBI double made it 4-0 and Zane Evans’ single scored another run. Antonio then hit a three-run homer and Donato followed with a solo shot. Glenn Sparkman, 3-1, allowed three hits and no runs in five innings. He struck out five and walked one.
Andy Ferguson scattered five hits over six innings and Class AA Northwest Arkansas beat Arkansas 6-0 in Little Rock in the opener of a scheduled doubleheader. The second game was postponed because of a wet field. Ferguson, 4-5, walked two and struck out six. Third baseman Cheslor Cuthbert had three hits and three RBIs.
Luke Farrell was the hard-luck loser as he gave up an unearned run on two hits in six innings, but Class A Lexington lost 1-0 at Augusta. Farrell, 1-5, walked two and struck out five. Crawford Simmons tossed two shutout innings of relief.
