Matt Fields hits homer as Class AAA Omaha wins

Matt Fields hit a two-run homer Tuesday and left-hander Ryan Verdugo allowed just a run in five innings as Class AAA Omaha won 5-2 at Round Rock.
Verdugo, 2-1, gave up two hits, walked three and struck out five. Casey Coleman (no hits, four strikeouts) and Louis Coleman (one run) each pitched two innings.
Fields’ home run was his sixth of the year. Third baseman Brian Bocock had four hits and shortstop Jimmy Paredes had three hits and scored twice.
Bruce Chen allowed a pair of solo homers in three innings of work as Class AA Northwest Arkansas lost 8-5 to Tulsa. The Naturals broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning when Angel Franco’s single scored Mark Threlkeld and Ethan Chapman. But the Drillers scored three in the eighth off Malcom Culver and Noel Arguelles gave up two runs in the ninth inning. Chen gave up eight hits and Tulsa had 17 total in the game. Cheslor Cuthbert hit a two-run homer for the Naturals.
Hunter Dozier had an RBI double and another run scored on a fielder’s choice as Class A-Advanced Wilmington beat Potomac 5-3. Miguel Almonte gave up a solo homer in the top of the seventh inning that allowed Potomac to tie the game. But in the bottom half, Terrance Gore hit a one-out double, took third on an error and scored on Raul Mondesi’s fielder’s choice. Mondesi took second on a groundout and scored on Dozier’s double. Dozier also had a two-run double in the third inning. Bubba Starling had an RBI double in that inning as well. Almonte, 4-2, gave up three runs on five hits in seven innings with two walks and four strikeouts.
Luke Farrell allowed two runs on four hits in 5 2/3 innings, but took the loss as Class A Lexington was beaten 3-1 by Greenville. Dominique Taylor, who was chosen for the Southern Division team at the South Atlantic League All-Star game, had two hits and scored the Legends’ lone run. First baseman/catcher Frank Schwindel also was chosen for the All-Star game, which is June 17 in Hickory, N.C.
