The Royals have activated center fielder Lorenzo Cain from the disabled list for Monday’s game against the Padres. To make room on the roster, the team optioned outfielder Jimmy Paredes to Class AAA Omaha.

Cain missed 17 games because of a strained groin muscle.

Cain started a rehabilitation assignment over the weekend in Omaha. Before he departed, he estimated he needed about 20 at-bats to acclimate himself to live pitching. Instead, he received seven. He went hitless.

Before his injury, Cain was actually one of the team’s more productive hitters. He was hitting .333 with a .745 on-base plus slugging percentage.
