KC Monarchs-themed socks for sale

05/16/2014 1:06 PM

Jason Grill thinks a lot about socks, which is understandable.

Grill, a St. Pius X High School graduate who earned a law degree at Missouri, is co-founder of Sock 101. According to the company’s website, it “exists to enhance the style, appeal, and success of young professionals through colorful, yet professional and stylish socks.”

To that end, the company designed three Kansas City Monarchs-themed dress socks. A portion of each pair that’s sold goes to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum.

“The Monarchs had some cool logos over the years,” Grill said. “(The socks) serve two purposes.

“They allow people to support Kansas City and it helps the museum. ... It’s a lot of fun. Whenever I travel, I’ll be wearing these socks.”

The socks are available at the museum, just in time for Sunday’s Dressed to the Nines event at Kauffman Stadium.

“They did their first year last year with the Dressed To The Nines on a Sunday, and I think it went over well and a lot of people dressed up like in olden days,” Grill said. “I’m hoping that this year that it really take off.”
