For most of spring training, Royals manager Ned Yost stressed that a committee of relievers would handle the eighth-inning. He could choose from Aaron Crow or Tim Collins or Kelvin Herrera or whomever possessed the hot hand.

With Opening Day a little more than 24 hours away, Yost is no longer playing coy. Wade Davis will be his set-up man, and the last link on the bridge to All-Star closer Greg Holland.

"He looked dominant last year in that role," Yost said at Comerica Park on Sunday morning.

Davis floundered as a starter in 2013, but possesses the ability to overwhelm hitters in short bursts. As a full-time reliever with Tampa Bay in 2012, Davis struck out 11.1 batters per nine innings and posted a 2.43 ERA.

The Royals have yet to release their 25-man roster, as they are waiting for second baseman Omar Infante (bone spur in elbow) to complete this morning’s workout. But here is the projected bullpen: Holland, Davis, Crow, Collins, Herrera and lefty Francisley Bueno.
