Kyle Zimmer had another strong outing Sunday as Class A-Advanced Wilmington beat Lynchburg 6-1 in the opener of a doubleheader. The Hillcats won the nightcap 7-1.

In the opener, Zimmer had 10 strikeouts in five innings, while allowing two hits and one run with one walk. In his last four starts, Zimmer has allowed five runs in 25 innings (1.80 ERA), giving up 14 hits, with 36 strikeouts and just three walks.

Zimmer, 4-8, was the Royals’ first pick in last year’s draft.

The Blue Rocks had eight hits, including four doubles. Catcher Parker Morin and first baseman Dennis Raben each had two hits, including a double, scored a run and knocked in a run.

In the second game, Lynchburg had 13 hits and scored at least one run in each of the last five innings. Starter Kellen Moen, 1-3, allowed two runs on five hits in 32/3 innings.

Jorge Bonifacio had the lone RBI in the game.

The Kings of Kauffman blog reported that Zimmer had been promoted to Class AA Northwest Arkansas, and it sure seemed to be true by what he said about Sunday's game (Note: his baldish head is a result of a charity event):
